1902 /2016

100% Carignane planted in 1902. Purple and depth. Just 3 barrels. Numbered bottles. Priorat embedded.

  • GRAPE VARIETIES: 100% Carignan planted in 1.902. Centenary Carignan.
  • SOILS & VINES: Vineyards are situated at a height of 350/500 meters above sea level on hillsides of pronounced slopes, with the characteristic slate soil called "licorella". The grapes come from vines planted in 1.902 just after the philloxera. Very low yiels: 300 gr per vine.
  • VINTAGE AND CLIMATE: Mild winter with timely snowfall in February. Spring with little rain and high average temperatures. 60 l./m2 fallen in June allow us to face a heatwave in July and more temperate and dry August and September. Harvest from 15 September to 25 October. Slowly but surely. A quiet and very good harvest.
  • AGEING: The elaboration process followed temperature-controlled fermentation with a total maceration period of about 4/5 weeks what allowed a progressive and excellent extraction. The ageing was of 16 months in new French oak.

The Wine Advocate #244 - Aug. 2019 – 97pts

There are strong aromas on the nose of the 2016 1902 Centenary Carignan, not that far off from those of the Doix from the same year, with floral notes intermixed with hints of graphite and wet slate, a touch of tree bark and earth and lots of aromatic herbs, reminiscent of the landscape of the Priorat. The palate reveals abundant, slightly dusty tannins with the electric freshness of the year.

984 numbered bottles were filled in April 2018.
