Doix /2016

Elegance and complexity, exclusive and strong personality; very limited production.

  • GRAPE VARIETIES: 55% Carignan and 45% Grenache
  • SOILS & VINES: Doix estate vineyards are situated at a height of 350/500 meters above sea level on hillsides of pronounced slopes, with the characteristic slate soil called "licorella". The grapes come from vines between 80 and 105 years old, with a small but exceptional average production of 400 gr per vine.
  • VINTAGE AND CLIMATE: Small and healthy grapes because of one of the driest summers we have ever had. Moderate temperatures in average with small rains in September gave us one of the quietest and longest harvest in years. Very good ripening and well kept acidity. A vintage that will make a difference.
  • AGEING: The elaboration process followed temperature-controlled fermentation with a total maceration period of about 4/5 weeks what allowed a progressive and excellent extraction. The ageing was of 16 months in new French oak.

The classical 2016 Doix Costers de Vinyes Velles is a selection of very old vines (close to 100 years old) that feels harmonious, elegant and floral but with the rustic touch of 55% Cariñena, softened by the Garnacha. It has a vibrant and electric palate, with the acidity of many 2016s, which gives it length and tastiness and should make it develop nicely in bottle. It ranks among the finest vintages of Doix.

3,500 bottles were filled in April 2018.
