Les Crestes /2007

Fruity, fresh and expressive. A genuine young and delicious Priorat wine.

  • GRAPE VARIETIES: 80% Grenache, 10% Carignan, 10% Syrah
  • SOILS & VINES: Les Crestes vineyards are situated at a height of 400 meters above sea level on hillsides of pronounced slopes, with the characteristic slate soil called "licorella". A third of the grapes comes from vineyards of more than 50 years old, and the rest comes from vineyards with an average of 15/20 years old.
  • VINTAGE AND CLIMATE: The climate of 2007 vintage was severe, with average temperatures more extreme than average. We had a hot and dry year, but with a few very interesting distinctiveness. We received abundant rain in April and also at the beginning of October, whereas the summer was extremely dry. The average annual temperatures were higher than average but during the maturity period there was a thermal contrast very superior to the average, with low temperatures even lower than 10ºC, lengthening the ripeness and favouring complexity to the wines.
  • AGEING: Grape selection in vineyards, and at the winery grape entry, with two consecutive table selection. Fermentation in small tank size of stainless steel, at controlled temperature of 26 ºC, with a total maceration period of 18 days. Aging of 10 months in French oak (very thin grain).

Cellar Tracker - Huse

The new basic cuvée of the Mas Doix estate (first vintage), a super elegant and utterly enjoyable wine, a blend of 80 % Garnatxa, 10 % Carinyena and 10 % Syrah, from the steep, slate dominated “Les Crestes”-vineyard (the “Mountain ridges”) in Poboleda. The wine spent 10 months in French barriques. Decanted one hour in advance. Deep purple-red colored wine with a lovely bouquet of red berry fruit, cassis, licorice and violets. Dense, full-bodied palate, plenty of concentrated red fruit, with a great balance, a good acid core and very charming tannins. Subtle oak touch. Impressive, fruity finish with fine notes of Mediterranean herbs. Immense drinking pleasure at present (why wait). A hedonistic wine with an extremely good QPR.
