Salvy Big Nose Blog - May 2015 - 4/5pts

Notes: It comes from the younger vines of Mas Doix. It's produced in a modern, expressive style, yet respectful of the Priorat's terroir.

It appears medium ruby with very good tears. On the nose it's clean, med+ intensity, plums, cherries, redcurrants, liquorice, thyme. Mineral notes as well, paired by hints of cedar and coffee beans.

On the palate is dry, with med+ acidity keeping the wine lively, medium (silky) tannins, high alcohol, medium+ body with good concentration of flavors. Med to med+ finish.

Very good quality.Drink now or in the next couple of years. High Price (but good value for money in the context of Priorat).

80% Garnacha, 10% Carinena, 10% Syrah, Poboleda, Priorat, Spain.

3rd vintage of Les Crestes, tasted at Mas Doix along with Valentí Llagostera. The wine is clear and colorful with a deep core transforming to an medium translucent rim. Still incredible youthful, there's a middling intensity of fresh aroma that hits the nose, together with a pretty wide variety of dazzling fruits, ranging from lighter red berries to darker. There's kernal aromas of mocha and touch of herbs, rosemary suggested.Let's take a sip. The acidity is refreshing! The alcohol is noticeable, but palatable along with a concentrated smooth body, up weighing flavor intensity and fine tannins. Flavors suggested are dark cherries, herbs and licorice with a subtle slate minerality and oakiness that brings this wine together nicely. Fruitiness and minerality loiter in a appealingly lengthy aftertaste. All in all great typicity and balance, concentrated and complex at this price point, yet not overwhelming. The QPR is excellent! Drinks excellent now and for 3-4 more years.

Intense cherry red color, with hints of maroon violet rim, high layer thin tear ink. The nose highlights its ripe fruit with a predominance of red fruit and flashes blackberry compote, spicy notes very present that give strength to the fruit and a toasted not polished yet but are in tune on the set, balsamic well marked with predominant menthol and liqueur background adds freshness. The palate has a powerful entrance, marked astringency that does not bother, good route, ripe fruit, tasty, spicy. Long aftertaste of ripe fruit and smoky aftertaste and a some liqueur.
