  • GRAPE VARIETIES: 65% Garnacha, 15% Cariñena, 10 % Syrah, 5% merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • SOILS & VINES: Salanques vineyards are situated at a height of 350/450 meters above sea level on hillsides of pronounced slopes, with the characteristic slate soil called "licorella". Wine elaborated with Grenache and Carignan of old vines between 70 and 90 years, as well as younger vines for varieties of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet and part of those of Grenache.
  • VINTAGE AND CLIMATE: The climate of 2006 vintage was some kind unusual. In terms of rain, the winter was pretty wet what allowed a nice sprout growing. Then, spring arrived with a very dry season, providing wealthy conditions to the vineyards. The first half of summer was severe, with very little rain. Only by the beginning of September we had nice rainwater (about 25 litres) what gave a nice touch to finish the maturation process. Temperatures were over the average of previous years, and more specifically from mid June to end of July. September rain cooled down the temperatures and extended the maturation. This vintage shows how exceptional it was.
  • AGEING: The elaboration process followed temperature-controlled fermentation with a total maceration period between 3 and 4 weeks what allowed a progressive and excellent extraction. Ageing of 14 months in French oak.

The Salanques cuvee is the second wine of Celler Mas Doix, a barrel by barrel declassification from Mas Doix itself. The 2006 Salanques is a blend of 65% Garnacha, 15% Carinena, and the balance Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 14 months in French oak. It offers up an enticing nose of cedar, pencil lead, tar, licorice, and black cherry. Dense, layered, and pleasure-bent on the palate, this well balanced wine will provide pleasure over the next eight years. Drink: 2009 - 2017

Bright ruby color. Finely etched dark berry and mineral scents are complicated by baking spices, anise and dried flowers. Firm and focused, with energetic blackberry and licorice flavors and a spicy quality emerging with air. This put on weight in the glass and finished with very good, sweet persistence. Drinkable right now.
